Description

A favourite in any OT’s toolbox!

The modern geoboard consists of a physical plastic board with a certain number of plastic pegs set in specific arrays around which elastic bands are wrapped. Traditionally used to teach maths concepts, Geoboards are wonderful tools for promoting and developing fine motor and visual perception skills as well as creativity. And as your child moves through foundation years at school, the geoboard will be well used to learn basic maths concepts such as shapes, measurement, area & perimeter, grid co-ordinates and much more too!

What skills can be developed?
1. Students will grasp and pick up elastic bands, developing the pincer grip and hand arch required for handwriting.
2. In-hand manipulation takes place when the elastic bands are wrapped around any number of pins, moving the elastic bands from the tips of the fingers around each pin.
3. Visual perception can be enhanced by allowing children to copy shapes / letters and forms from and example sheet.
4. Creativity is easily obtained by allowing students to “create” their own images with a range of elastic bands.
